I thought we could use a break from all of the AI rumor talk around here, and focus on a rumor that's not only less likely to occur, but one that can't even happen until after this season. The Bucks' General Manager, Larry Harris, did a brief interview with ESPN's Chad Ford the other day. Besides the usual talk of how great Michael Redd is (especially for a second round pick), how nicely Andrew Bogut is developing, and giving Coach "Butters" Stotts a vote of confidence, Ford's "question of fear" posed to Harris was this:
Most of the talk in the media is that you'll be making a move for Chauncey Billups next summer. I konw you can't comment on specific players, but how are you going to spend that cap money?
Now of course Harris couldn't actually say he was targeting Billups, but he did go as far as to say that if you look at their roster, they need a point guard. He also said that in addition to that, they would be looking at a small or power forward in free agency, because Ruben Patterson is a free agent after this season. Patterson has played well for the Bucks so far, but it sounds like Harris is expecting his asking price to be too high for the Bucks to keep him.
I don't see Billups coming to Milwaukee, unless he feels that the Pistons' window for another title is permanently closed, and the Bucks can add another piece to truly contend in the East. That being said, the Pistons' front office didn't exactly handle the Ben Wallace negotiations that well, so if they try to save a couple of million and in the process alienate Chauncey, I guess anything is possible.

There seems to be a sense that Detroit "blew" its chance at resigning Ben Wallace. I disagree. Big Ben turned out to be a liability in the previous playoffs by being lethargic on defense and unable to convert free throws when it counted. He also apparently did not like to play for Saunders and complained about the amount of scoring opportunities he got (regardless of what he could convert). Ben talked about being loyal to the people who gave him a chance, but in the end money changed his mind. Only loyalty he had was to himself.

Isn't Reggie White the last athlete inanu sport who went to Wisconsin willingly? Wisconsin only looks good to Canadians.

I agree with George: IMHO, Detroit didn't "blow" the Ben negotiations so much as simply decide not to overpay for an aging player whose skillset is entirely based on athleticism. The idea that Chauncey might go to Milwaukee seems downright laughable to me. The only reason they're even mentioned as a possible destination is because of the Bucks' cap situation -- which probably won't be an issue since Joe Dumars has already said he'll most likely give Billups a max contract if that's what it takes to keep him.

Billups is still talented and would help. But the bigger issue is them blowing the Wallace potential deal. What a joke and a big mistake.
