With NFL head coaching jobs beginning to open, we'll profile some of the candidates to fill those openings. Name: Cam Cameron
Current job: Offensive coordinator, San Diego Chargers
Past jobs: Head coach, Indiana University, 1997-2001; assistant coach, University of Michigan, 1984-1993
Pros: Runs the well-oiled machine that is the Chargers' offense, doing a great job helping both Drew Brees and Philip Rivers develop. Longtime protege of two successful coaches, Bo Schembechler and Marty Schottenheimer.
Cons: Won just 18 games in five years at Indiana. Under league rules, teams have only this week to talk to Cameron, or they must wait until the Chargers are out of the playoffs.
Conclusions: He's only 45 years old, so Cameron will eventually get a head-coaching job in the NFL. This year doesn't seem likely to be the year, though. He'll talk to the Cardinals, but the best situation for Cameron might be sticking with Schottenheimer and taking over when he retires.

Cam Cameron will probably stay with the Chargers for this season because the Chargers have a chance of winning the Super Bowl. Why leave a winning team to rebuild a losing franchise.

kelly, I don't know the offensive and defensive coordinators for Seattle, but I do know the coordinators for the team that actually won the Super Bowl last year.
For the record, I have a buddy who is a big IU fan, and he hates Cam Cameron. Cameron had Antwan Randle-El as his QB at IU, and my buddy claims that he never properly utilized him. This seems surprising, considering how innovative Cameron has been with the Chargers. Perhaps he's learned from his past mistakes, or my buddy is an idiot (very possible), or Cameron is getting a lot of help as OC.
Regardless, I agree with Michael - I don't see Cameron going anywhere for at least another year, although all the offensive talent in Arizona must be mildly intriguing...

Dear George...
get real.. you leave becacuse that's how myths & legends are born. Cam's only a second banana in San Diego and nobody remebers who the past asst. coaches are from most superbowl teams. Do you know the offensive or defensive cordinator from seattle last year? Not meaning to knock them, but you know Holgram and then the players. Cam might want his own identity instead of being in Marty's shadow. I think Cam would do well in Miami and should at least be talked to, along with Riveria in chicago. Mora is not a good choice. If he couldn't take the heat in Hotlanta then he would never survive Miami.

Now that the Pittsburgh job is open and Cameron is rumored to make their list, you know he will leave San Diego if offered that opportunity. Who wouldn't?

Didn't properly use Randle El? He was a first-team All-American by the Football Writers Association, was the Big Ten Player-of-the-Year, and finished sixth in the Heisman voting.

So you are saying he would not make a good coach? I dont know a whole lot about him but living here in San Diego I can see what he has done with their offense. It also seems like Rivera will make a good coaching candidate.
