Michael Vick has apologized for flipping the bird to Falcons' fans after the team's loss Sunday, but does it really matter? Here is the official statement on the Falcons' website:
"First and foremost, I would like to apologize for my inappropriate actions with fans today. I was frustrated and upset at how the game was going for my team, and that frustration came out the wrong way. That's not what I'm about. That's not what the Atlanta Falcons are about. I simply lost my cool in the heat of the moment. I apologize and look forward to putting this incident behind me."
I have defended Mike Vick through all of the ups and downs, and I still think he's a great player that can help the Falcons win. He was the only one that even showed up on offense yesterday!! But, as the cliché goes, you learn about team and its players when their backs are against the wall. Well, both Mike's and the Falcons' back are slammed up against the wall, and through this simple action, we see exactly what Vick is made of. This isn't about whether he can pass the ball, which I still think he can. (Roddy White you are horrible!!!!) This is about being a leader and Mike Vick is, sadly, a long way from being a leader.
(There is a picture of the gesture here.)

Now we see the REAL Vick. For the money he makes there is no reason for this. It is a disapointment. It must run in the family remember his brother?

FIRST and FOREMOST, I would like to say that the Atlanta fans behavior was SAD SAD SAD! I grew up in Baton Rouge...a true LSU and Saints fan but I NEVER booed my team..ever! I think it stinks for any team (no matter how they might be playing...I'm sure they are doing their best...but sometimes it just doesn't come together) but it has to stink to hear and see your home town fans booing you. I would be embarrassed and feel no respect for my fans. You know the players have to already feel terrible that they are losing and not playing well...but to have that kind of support! That is horrible. Vicks lost his cool and is wrong in what he did. He knows it. But maybe the fans and the city of Atlanta should apologize too. With fans like that, who needs them! I feel sorry for any ball team that has rude folks in the stands. I wouldn't call them fans...just obnoxious rude people. I'm sure the ones booing never played ball and never had a son, brother, etc....who played. The Atlanta folks showed no class. (neither did Vicks...but I hope he will learn and not let those losers in the stands bring him down again.) Get it together Vicks....you're better than that. Shame on you Atlanta!

Vick should not have did what he done but he reacted out of frustration to a situation rather than responding correctly in a situation. He said he was sorry whether he did it by force or by choice all you have to go on is he apologized. Anyway, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Whatsa matter? The fans have been giving Mike Vick
and the Falcons much worse verbage than this simple
bird flip. He should have given these raucous idiots
a double bird, as a minimum! Let the players play!

Vick is human, and one heck of an athlete. Who among us hasn't had a bad day and done something stupid that we regretted later? Fans can be very cruel and insulting. Athletes don't deserve the mental and sometimes physical abuse given to them. Vick was man enough to apologize. Let it go. PLAY BALL

Too bad it came to this but hey you have a ticket to game to watch it not sit on high and judge who is a role model. How about the fan in the seat next to you yelling this #$#)$ and you #($)#( or the lovely tailgating crowd sitting in their own vomit. Some good role models there. It is a game these are people Mike Vick is not the only player out there I would get sick you yelling to when you can cast stones then feel free but remember to duck when they hit you

I think M. Vick is a phenomenal athelete, that said, about a multimillionare in the sports business, yes it is nothing but a business anymore at the top level, maybe even NCAA, however, where is the "sportsmanship" in sports. I have coached youth teams for years and years, and one of the very first thing I tell my players ( female and male) is that we WILL show respect and sportsmanship to the officials and opposing players alike, we WILL have fun, and we might EVEN win some ballgames. This credo was drilled into my head as a youth by coaches, most of them exGI's who also learned self discipline in the military. my ONLY point here is that sportsmanship and respect are nearly totally lacking, NOT totally, for I DO see some TRUE professionals, being exemplary following there games, win lose or draw. Most of the lack of respect/sportsmanship, is our fault as parents and coaches, for now DEMANDING respect for others. I will NOW get off my soap box..... a life long athelete and career military guy, who DOES have at least self respect and respect for our great county, and our fellow man/woman. thx

WEll, Well Well! In about 10 days we have had a white comedian make bad and the public keeps harping on it. NOw, we have a black football player give the finger and thats OK. He made a simple mistake. It just proves that in the US we expect a white to be punished severely for things such as this but seem to expect a black to receive exoneration. Hum! We've a long way to go for equality or is this just another way to have "sides" so we can harp on it. Sick society.

I think Vick's got alot of heart but I think it time to rethink where he should be playing. Maybe it's time to move him to another position,

Michael and Marcus made from same bad mold. Why do we continue to pay these guys? Great athletes came before them and great athletes will come after them. They will be remembered by their bad manners, bad actions and bad up bringing.

That's it!!! All Vick has to do is apologize! Where's Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton now? Vick should go on O'Rielly Factor, CNN News,& any other news organization and explain why he lost his "cool" and is allowed to get away with it with a slap on the hand!!! HE NEEDS TO GO TO ANGER MANAGEMENT CLASSES WITH THE COMIC RICHARDS.

Breaking news, Vick has hired Newt Ginghrich and Jerry Fallwell to reachout to the fan community and learn some sensitivity. Many fans felt fearful and ashamed and have retained legal council to explore "what it would take" for fans to not feel bad anymore.

No matter how bad my team or quarterback played. I would NEVER even think of booing them when they walked off the field. What a bunch of creepy fans.
It's too bad Vic lost his cool as I do believe there shouldn't be a place for this in "pro" football, but until I've walked in his shoes, the stress, exhilaration, physical and mental extremes that a quartback experiences on the field, then to be booed when you walk off??? By your own fans?? I'm not gonna judge him.

I'm not a fan of the Falcons and never will be probably. But in the games i have seen. M. Vick has to do everything for his team for them to even stand a fighting chance. His teammates sure dont wanna help by dropping passes he throws in their hands. No wonder he is so tired... he is the Falcons...without him they would go 2-14 or close to that. But to counter this M. Vick is so selfish about his fans and teammates. He is supposed to be a leader and help the team. He just goes and makes their losing ways worse.

What cool? He never had any anyway. It's so typical of him. Actions speak louder then words. To be sorry after the fact is a cop out, he knew what he was doing and ment it. He would never have said he was sorry or wrong, if he wasn't made to do it.
Just because he runs makes him a great quarterback? That's not the standard of a good,or grate quarterback.
Why not just let one of the running backs take the snap from center, I'm sure they would score many more touchdowns then that so called quarterback. Go back to the winged T, that's what he is good in, not quarterbacking a team.
