Injuries To Watch: Week 6

Every week when the dinner bell rings on Friday evening, we'll be here to provide you a comprehensive injury report for the NFL weekend to follow. For those injuries that go right down to the wire, drop by our Fantasy Fanhouse expert live chat from 10am to 1pm EST every Sunday and we'll take care of you on those bloody game-time decisions. As always, please feel free to chime in with opinions, updates, and rumors in the comments.

The Arizona Cardinals

Anquan Boldin - Coach Whisenhunt left open the possibility of Q's return to action in Sunday's game against the Cowboys as he practiced lightly on Thursday. Still, with the bye week coming in Week 7, it doesn't make much sense to rush him back to action this week. Wait until closer to gametime to make a sit/start decision, but definitely plan on starting another receiver for week 6.

Roddy White - Roddy scared owners on Wednesday when a big in-practice collision kept him out of action and earned him a "Questionable" on the injury report. It looks like this was just precautionary, however, so he should be ready to go on Sunday.

The Baltimore Ravens

Willis McGahee - McGahee's injuries du jour, his knee and ribs, kept his practices very light and he sported the red no-contact jersey in practice. Expect him to play on Sunday, but with Le'Ron McClain continuing to mop up the goalline touchdowns and about a third of the carries.

The Buffalo Bills

Trent Edwards - Edwards sat out of practice Tuesday and was sent home on Wednesday as he is still woozy from the concussion suffered in last Sunday's game. The Bills have a bye this week, so it really doesn't matter; just keep an eye on him next week.

Fantasy Fallout: Carson Palmer Out Again

I'd like to thank the football injury Gods for a great Friday in the life of Matt Snyder. I spend all week compiling the positional rankings, and then they all run this morning ... and a few hours later we get news that two big names will be out for Sunday. I already spun the Westbrook situation, and now I'll cover Carson Palmer's impending absence.

Ryan Fitzpatrick will start. There's one word to describe what this does to the Bengals.

Murder.

All of them, their value is decimated. Even T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Housh did catch six balls for 50 yards in Fitzpatrick's other start, and the Jets have the 31st ranked pass defense in the league. Still, we had Housh listed as an elite option this week, and Fitzpatrick is not even in the same ballpark as Palmer when it comes to the ability to throw the football. You've likely gotta start him, but there are bunches of better options. I'd bump him down from ninth to around Bernard Berrian and Torry Holt in the late-teens.

As for the others ...

Brian Westbrook OUT Sunday

The Eagles will be without their top offensive threat Sunday in San Francisco.

Brian Westbrook, with a few broken ribs, will miss the game.

With Westbrook out of the lineup, the entire complexion of the Eagles high-powered offense changes. Correll Buckhalter isn't a bad option, but he's no Westbrook -- who compiled over 2100 yards from scrimmage last season. The main blow for the offense is the loss in Westbrook's ability to catch passes from out of the backfield. Donovan McNabb will be leaned upon heavily to make plays himself.

Also of note in the Eagles report was that Reggie Brown will miss the game, and that Kevin Curtis might play. Even if Curtis goes, DeSean Jackson is obviously going to be an integral part of the offense this weekend. Along with Jackson and Buckhalter, the Eagles will likely need Hank Baskett, Greg Lewis, and L.J. Smith to step up their respective games. They cannot afford to lose anymore ground in the beastly NFC East.

Fantasy Spin:
Buckhalter's a viable start, Jackson's a must-start, and McNabb is always a must-start. Take a look at Curtis as a last-minute desperation sleeper in deep leagues or on teams with significant bye week issues. If he plays, he's liable to shake free for a deep one.

Please note these changes when you go through the RB and WR rankings.

Some Actual Kicker Analysis: Fantasy K Rankings, Week Six

FanHouse fantasy positional rankings are compiled weekly by the staff in order to provide answers to possible lineup questions. These are assuming most leagues use Fleaflicker's standard scoring structure. If you need clarification, you need more players ranked, or have funky league rules, feel free to shoot us an email question.

Once again, we'll try to find a kicker who plays on a capable offensive team ... that has the chance to sputter inside the red zone. I'm going with Matt Prater. The Broncos can throw the ball, but they are likely to be without Tony Scheffler and maybe even Eddie Royal. That means blanket coverage on Brandon Marshall by the Jags physical secondary. Plus, the Broncos haven't run the ball especially well, so the coverage gets tighter as the ball approaches the end-zone and the field shortens. Finally, Matt Prater has a booming leg and kicks in thin air.

I'd like to say that was fun. Still, it's a job ... some more:

- Not sure how the Browns can keep the juggernaut Giants out of the end-zone ... but extra points still count for one, and if the G-Men falter one time you're looking at a nine point day. John Carney is kicking for the Giants this weekend, by the way, not Lawrence Tynes.

- I finally love Shayne Graham. The Jets are just bad enough to allow points, but good enough to stop the Bengals deep.

- Robbie Gould never disappoints. Ever.

3. Nick Folk, @ AZ

Chargers Stock Plummeting: Fantasy D/ST Rankings for Week Six

The San Diego Chargers entered the season as an elite defensive unit. They had the most D/ST points last year by a decent margin in most formats, housed premier stat-mongers in Shawne Merriman and Antonio Cromartie -- who led them to a league-leading 30 picks, eight more than any other team -- and had every important piece returning. Well, now they've lost Merriman for the season, Cromartie's only shown up once fantasy-wise, and the unit has lost its swagger.

Now they face a Tom Brady-less Patriots squad, and I'm not even sure I'd start them ... how far the mighty have fallen.

Good luck this week. I count seven defenses I'd feel comfortable starting. That's it. Hopefully you are fortunate to own one of those seven, because this is not a defensive week bearing down upon us.

Zach Miller Emerging: Week Six Fantasy Tight End Rankings

Zach Miller is coming off a very big day in his young career, in which he caught five catches for 95 yards and a touchdown. The Raiders have had a bye week and will enter this week looking to form a new identity under a new regime. JaMarcus Russell will need a receiving option over the middle he can trust, and know he should trust Miller. Also, the Raiders are playing the Saints, who allowed a TD to Visanthe Shiancoe last week. Furthermore, the Saints are now missing rookie Tracy Porter at CB, and will likely have to offer safety help on the outside to lackluster cover-man Jason David. Miller's a great option this week.

- Kellen Winslow is sick. No, not in a good way this time. This really sucks at a time like this. Hopefully you have a good option instead, otherwise you just have to gamble.

- Nate Jackson will take stellar TE Tony Scheffler's place this week. Just remember that doesn't mean you get the same production.

- I'm going to say this every week until people stop asking about him: Never play Vernon Davis. EVER. Please stop asking.

Santana Bounces Back Big-Time: Fantasy WR Rankings for Week Six

Santana Moss really infuriated his owners last week. He came into the game as an elite wideout, scoring in three of his first four games -- and putting up eight catches for 145 yards in the game where he didn't hit paydirt. Facing a very solid Eagles secondary, which includes studly corner Asante Samuel, Moss was held to a goose-egg. Expect a huge reversal this week as he returns to form against a pathetic St. Louis secondary.

- Please read this. Keep an eye on Marques Colston. I know I didn't rank him, but he might play Sunday. Make sure to check an injury report anywhere you can, pay attention leading up to Sunday, and come to Sunday Morning Tailgate. If you own him, you must start him. He's elite. Throw him in the top five. I don't care who you bump.

- My deep sleeper is Rashied Davis.

Peterson's Romp Week: Fantasy Running Back Rankings for Week Six

This just in: opposing running backs annihilate the pathetic Lions' defense. Even last week when Matt Forte was only garnering 36 yards on 15 carries, he still found a way to score a TD, in addition to his receiving score. Now, let's consider that Adrian Peterson and the Vikings like to run the football and control the clock. He and his line are likely to be quite peeved after getting shut down against the Saints this past Monday night. Here comes the vengeance. All day.

- I've written about Michael Turner this week, but the bare bones are this ... you ain't runnin' in the Bears.

- I like Joseph Addai. I like him a lot. He's also had a rough go this year for various reasons -- which likely don't relate to him as a runner -- and now he's facing the Ravens top ranked rush defense.

- I understand Philly is very tough on the run. I also understand the Niners can't stay close without input from Gore. They'll find a way.

2. Clinton Portis, vs. STL
3. Matt Forte, @ ATL

The Dallas Cowboys can throw the ball. The Arizona Cardinals can throw the ball. Both teams are average-ish at stopping the pass (Arizona 14th in pass defense, Dallas 18th). You could actually argue that the Cardinals have a good defense if you want to just throw out the abysmal effort against Bretty and the Jets. Regardless, I don't expect this game to be a blowout, nor do I expect many defensive stands either. Let's just start both Tony Romo and Kurt Warner, please. Ok?

- Yes, Eli's ahead of Peyton ... but I'm not jumping aboard that train for the rest of the season, as many are. It's just that Eli faces the Browns and Peyton is facing the best defense in football.

- Gotta love Jason Campbell against the Rams terrible pass defense, and I'm just crazy enough to think the Rams can find enough points to push the Redskins into throwing longer than expected.

- The Matt Hasselbeck turnaround starts this week.

2. Kurt Warner, vs. DAL
3. Drew Brees, vs. OAK
4. Jay Cutler, vs. JAX
5. Eli Manning, @ CLE

Ranking the Rookie Runners: The 1st Quarter Stretch

"Run-Run-Run-Run-Run..."

The elite Rookie RB class of 2008 continues to make waves in the Fantasy world. The likes of Matt Forte and Chris Johnson continue to flourish as Top Tier RB's, while Felix Jones and Steve Slaton continue to nip at their heals to join the elite fraternity. Of course, there are a handful of other rookie runners that continue to flirt with greatness and are probably stapled into most line-ups on Sunday afternoon.

As promised, we're taking the pulse throughout the season, ranking the runners and forecasting the road ahead...if that's possible. By now, all these guys have at least a full quarter of an NFL season in the books. Some will rise and some will fall, but let's took a look at how things are shaping up thus far. As always, this could easily change after Sunday, but for now and in order...here goes.
