Cincinnati lies on the Ohio River -- and Kentucky lies on the other side. As far as the Bengals are concerned, they could burn all the bridges that connect the two because nothing good seems to happen when their players hang in the Bluegrass State.
Boone County, KY has seen a lot of the horrors. Yesterday, linebacker Ahmad Brooks was accused of punching a woman there. Cornerback Jonathan Joseph was there when he was picked up for marijuana possession.
Chris Henry lives in Boone County (I pass his house frequently). In his neighborhood, he was accused of punching a 16-year old but the accusations were unfounded. Police also found a stolen car in his driveway ... which was a rental car that had disputed charges on it. All the other stuff he's done has also shed a poor light on his community.
Oh, and Shaun Alexander ... who went to Boone County High School ... now wants to be a Bengal. Why the heck not? Alexander, a born again Christian, would stick out like a sore thumb.
Elsewhere in Northern Kentucky, Chad Johnson is in the middle of a lawsuit over a bogus raffle. It is claimed that Johnson didn't pay up on certain prizes that were raffled off at a comedy club in Newport, KY. Henry also was arrested in Covington, KY for buying alcohol for some underage girls.
Just down the road in Taylor Mill, KY, former Bengal linebacker A.J. Nicholson was arrested for hitting his girlfriend. Former Bengal (and current Brown) Eric Steinbach was picked up for boating under the influence on the Ohio River (which is, in a weird twist, Kentucky property).

Cincinnati Bengals Need to Stay Out of Kentucky
Bengals Linebacker Ahmad Brooks Accused of Punching a Woman
Hey ... I got a Bengals story that has nothing to do with Chad Johnson or Chris Henry. But it does involve assault!
Bengals linebacker Ahmad Brooks has been accused of punching a woman in the eye and sending her to the hospital:
Destiny Rosich gave a sworn statement Wednesday that Brooks was arguing outside her neighbor's home on April 9 in the 7600 block of Banklick Street. She said her children were outside playing and began to cry because Brooks and the neighbor were about to start a fistfight.
Brooks told the neighbor that he was going to "split his head open," Rosich wrote in her statement.
That when she "nicely approached" Brooks and asked him to stop and "take it somewhere else," according to the statement.
"He then pulled back his fist and struck (punched) me in the left eye," Rosich wrote. "I then fell and blacked out."
When Rosich gained consciousness, she grabbed her children, ran inside her home, called 911 and was taken to an area emergency room.
Police are considering it a fourth degree assault and limited their involvement to explaining to Rosich how to file a criminal summons. Brooks has been summoned to a court hearing on June 6th to answer to the charge.
Brooks has played two years with the Bengals after they selected him in the 2006 Supplemental Draft.
Shaun Alexander Wants to Be a Bengal
Wait. Did I just type that someone wants to be a Cincinnati Bengal? This spring, you haven't heard much of that. Chad Johnson and Levi Jones have spent the offseason begging to go somewhere else. Well, now we find someone that wants to be in the Queen City: Shaun Alexander.
Yes, Alexander is interesting in combing back to his roots and his agent said he will contact the Bengals:
"Making calls to teams. Bengals are on our list!" Jim Steiner, Alexander's agent, told The Enquirer in an e-mail Wednesday.
Alexander was born across the river in Covington and was raised in Florence, KY. He starred at Boone County High School which now sits off Shaun Alexander Way (and not too far from where I'm sitting). Since he left for college in Alabama, the locals have followed his progress with great pride ... and he still returns for various charitable causes.
But should the Bengals have any interest back? That's tough. They already have Rudi Johnson, Kenny Watson, Chris Perry and DeDe Dorsey. They used a second round pick on Kenny Irons last year, who then shredded his knee in the preseason. From a bodies standpoint, they have enough people back there.
Trade Your Chad Johnson Jerseys for Some ECHL Playoff Tickets
It is nearly unanimous: everyone in Cincinnati hates Chad Johnson.
Last week, you could trade in your old Chad Johnson gear for a t-shirt that said "86 85" on the front. This week, you can trade it in for some ECHL playoff tickets:
On Tuesday, April 29, Cincinnati Bengals supporters can bring their Chad Johnson jersey to Koch's Sporting Goods on Fourth Street from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and WGRR will swap them for a pair of playoff tickets to see the winning Cincinnati Cyclones hockey team.
Traded-in number 85 jerseys will go to charity and fans who donate their jerseys will be in the running to win a jersey of their choice from Koch's Sporting Goods.
The Cyclones are battling the Reading Royals in the quarterfinals of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
A buddy of mine asked me a few weeks ago, "what happened to Chad? How can you be so loved one minute and so loathed in such a small amount of time?"
It's quite easy: just piss all over the very people who supported you. That'll do the trick every time.
Bengals Draft Pick Compares Himself to Chad Johnson: 'Outspoken'

The Cincinnati Bengals just drafted Florida WR Andre Caldwell. Great player; nice draft pick.
However, Bengals fans may not like something he said in an online chat with ESPN:
Carlos west side mass: Andre who do you most compare your game to and why?
Andre Caldwell: Chad Johnson, a big time play maker, interacts with the crowd, and is out spoken.
Yeesh. Chad Johnson may as well be the name of a disease in Cincinnati right now ... and mainly because he is out-spoken. All the Bengals need is two of those kind of players in the locker room.
He's also one of those guys who has had health concerns and that should make Bengals fans rather skittish (Cincy draft picks tend to have some problems with injuries). He had a season ending leg injury in 2005 and had knee and hamstring problems last season.
It also shows that Cincinnati is very worried about their receiving corps. We knew that Chris Henry is gone and Chad Johnson is set to sit the season. T.J. Houshmandzadeh tied for the NFL lead in receptions last year. Now the Bengals use the draft to bring in Jerome Simpson in the second round and Caldwell in the third round.
Methinks the Redskins are Out of the Chad Johnson Sweepstakes
Last week, reports came out that the Redskins offered two draft picks to the Bengals for Chad Johnson. Cincinnati shot it down.
After Day 1 of the NFL Draft, it doesn't seem that the Redskins will revisit those talks.
The Skins draft out of the first round, netting three second round picks and used all three on receiving threats: WRs Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly and TE Fred Davis.
Thomas and Kelly are those big possession type receivers that Washington was looking to vault their new West Coast Offense. Both are strong, great hands, can break tackles and make big plays. Ya know, things we were looking for in Chad Johnson.
As Hogs Haven points out, this should help QB Jason Campbell out tremedously. He now has three big targets to look at the ability to spread this team out to four or five wideouts (Santana Moss and Antwaan Randle-El are no slouches). Davis projects to be like a Chris Cooley type player which gives Washington the ability to use two tight ends in the running game.
Ocho Cinco Would Rather Make Movies Than Play for the Bengals; Boz Is Impressed
Untenable is a word that immediately comes to mind with each passing day Ocho Cinco remains on the Bengals' roster. NFL Network's Solomon Wilcots got to talk to the World's Angriest Person on Thursday, and here's what he knows:
Chad Johnson is adament that he will not report to training camp when the Bengals go to Georgetown, KY later in July. In fact, he even said, when the team travels to Baltimore ... for their opening day game, he will not play for the team in that game.At this point, I think the Bengals would settle for a wideout who loves the game enough to show up for practice. Or, you know, they could try to trade Johnson before things really get FUBAR. (Although, I'm guessing we're well past that point. And it's April.)
He said, "Solomon .. hey, I could be on a studio set shooting a movie at that point." He went so far as to say that he expects the Bengals to draft a receiver as high as the second round ...
He said, "Solomon, they could draft as many receivers as they want, but they will not find a player that loves the game as much as I do."
Mr. Cinco also told Wilcots that "he believes the team is holding the fact that he loves the game so much ... against him." Yes, I think that's right. The organization has given up on actually trying to win games and will devote all their resources to being as vindictive as possible. Makes sense.
If nothing else, hopefully we'll get to see more of Drew Rosenhaus' mug on the YouTubes. That never gets old.
Chad Johnson Trade Demand: Two First Round Picks, Veteran Player and $5 Million
ESPN's Merrill Hoge said that the Cincinnati Bengals have quite the trade demands for anyone interested in acquiring Chad Johnson.ESPN's Merrill Hoge said, based on discussions with the Cincinnati Bengals, he thinks they would only trade receiver Chad Johnson if someone gives up the following:
2 first-round picks and an established player.
And the Bengals would want $5 million back from Johnson in previously-paid bonus money.
Yeah, I don't see that happening. Randy Moss netted just a fourth round pick in last year's draft and he was more accomplished. Getting two first rounders plus a veteran player for Ocho Cinco is waaaaay too much to ask.
Now, Chad's agent Drew Rosenhaus said that the Bengals have already shot down a deal that would've given them two first round picks. If we believe in Drew (*gag*) then maybe this demand isn't too far out there. I just hope my team isn't the one that pulls the trigger on it.

And things continue to look up in Cincinnati. And by "look up", I mean "look bleak; very, very bleak." NFL Network's Adam Schefter is a busy little bee today, and in between chugging Red Bulls, he provides the latest out of the NFL's version of Arkham Asylum:
"We all know that Chad Johnson has requested a trade and is disgruntled, but offensive tackle, former first-round pick Levi Jones also has requested a trade from the Bengals recently, though it has nothing to do with money, in his particular case.I suppose this isn't' altogether shocking because ... well, because it's Cincinnati: where NFL dreams go to die. As Rich Eisen astutely notes, if Jones is dealt, it probably won't be to the Dolphins. Just a hunch.
He is in a bit of a disagreement with the coaching staff right now so there is another issue to deal with aside from the Chad Johnson mess.
At this point, I expect the Bengals will open the season with Carson Palmer and Ocho Cinco on the roster and that's it. Upside: Johnson will be Palmer's primary target. Downside: history suggests two-men teams face very long odds to make it to the postseason.
But, hey, it's not about winning, it's about making a point.
NFL Draft Drinking Game
The Bleacher Report has brought out their NFL Draft drinking game. If you are looking for an excuse to get wasted quickly, check it out and play so you can deal with the (over)hype and drink your arse off (like the guy pictured). But how can we help ourselves? We're fans. And as fans, we need to know every detail about every player our team is considering drafting. And when our team finally picks an unknown linebacker from Middle Southern Tennessee State, we're going to need one of ESPN's 23 draft analysts to breakdown his 40 time and discuss his upside.
So, here are just some of the "rules" to follow to make your NFL Draft a jolly one:
- Every time Chris Berman unveils a ridiculous nickname...drink!
- Every time a Chris Berman nickname references a song that's over 20 years old...drink twice!
- Every time an ESPN analyst confuses Jake and Chris Long...drink!
- Every time Emmitt Smith uses a word that isn't actually a word...drink!
- Every time you hear the word "spygate"...drink!
- Every time Chris Mortensen "breaks" a story...drink!
- If an analyst talks about the potential of Bengals WR Chad Johnson getting traded...drink!
- Every time someone mentions that Tom Brady was drafted in the sixth round...drink!
Drew Rosenhaus Appears in Video Imploring Bengals to Trade Chad Johnson
(via PFT) "One player that obviously I'm hoping will be traded is Chad Johnson," Rosenhaus said. "Bengals, if you're listening to me, please trade Chad. It's obvious that the relationship is not working. It's not going to be effective going forward. ... He doesn't want to play for the Bengals anymore. Why not make the trade?"
Rosenhaus has previously said that he would handle negotiations with the Bengals quietly, but that's obviously not the case anymore. He's now saying he thinks the Bengals can get two first-round draft picks in a trade for Johnson, and that the Bengals should do it. Will Johnson still be a Bengal 72 hours from now? I think so, but after seeing that video, I can't say that very confidently.

Jay Glazer Reveals Previous Argument Between Carson Palmer and Chad Johnson
Fox Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer was on the Jim Rome radio show on Thursday to shed some light on the Chad Johnson situation.
Bengals fans: it's not very good (hat tip Lance McAlister):
"It's too late to salvage this. People just don't understand how bad it has gotten. Last year, in a team meeting before a game...coaches asked if anyone had a problem with Chad. Carson Palmer stood up and said, "yea, I have a problem with him". Chad and Carson began arguing. Chad was screaming at Carson in the middle of the room"
Wow! Granted, there are 32 teams in this league and all 32 of them have had shouting matches at some point. We don't all know about them because they stay in the locker room. Of course, not all of them feature two guys who have put their bickering in public.
One thing is certain: Carson Palmer isn't going anywhere. According to Marvin Lewis, Ocho Cinco isn't going anywhere, either. Is it still worth proving a point if it pisses off your franchise quarterback?

Chad Johnson's Jersey Is Nice ... For Me To Poop On!
I guess Bengals fans are done with Chad Johnson. So much so that fans are doing all sorts of things to their Ocho Cinco jerseys. Some decide to mumble their hate as they burn his jersey. Others are just planning on sending their gear to foreign lands.
This dude in the video above decides to make a YouTube video of him ... uh ... destroying the jersey. It starts innocently with a stomp. Then, he wipes his butt with it. From that point, he takes it to the bathroom to first whiz on it ... then drop a dook between the 8 and the 5 (remember, this was after he wiped himself).
These guys sure are showing Chad who's boss!
Bengals Might Not Win Many Games in '08, but They're Awesome at Being Vindictive

Some people might consider this an intervention: the Dan Snyder-owned Redskins have a long history of trading draft picks for NFL players, and occasionally this personnel strategy has blown up in their face.
Snyder and Assistant to the Traveling Secretary Vinny Cerrato re-invented themselves this off-season, and the team has eschewed free agency and focused on building through the draft. But just like Pacman Jones and strip clubs, you can't keep the 'Skins and high-priced free agents apart for long.
The team's infatuation with Chad Johnson isn't news -- we've known about it for months now -- but they've also made inquiries about the Cardinals' Anquan Boldin. In both instances, Washington's offer was politely declined. So in a sense, the Bengals and Cards are keeping the Redskins on the wagon.
None of this can make Johnson very happy, however, particularly since Snyder, as he is wont to do, was ready to open up the checkbook.
Acquiring Johnson has been the Redskins' No. 1 offseason objective and they are prepared to guarantee him about $21 million as part of a new contract, according to league sources.Ouch. It's hard to argue that the Bengals come off looking particularly savvy in this situation; they've turned down a first-round pick to keep the team cancer on the roster. And if Johnson was a pain in the ass before, imagine how happy he'll be about losing out on $21 million guaranteed.
But, hey, sometimes it's about proving a point. So, um, yay for Pyrrhic victories!
Bengals Fans: Do They Wanna Win or Do They Wanna Prove a Point?
One of the interesting things about the news that the Bengals rejected a deal from the Redskins for Chad Johnson is the tone of the fans in Cincinnati. There seems to be an even split about how the Bengals should approach this situation:
Trade him -- or let him rot!
Coach Marvin Lewis said he wants to let him rot to make the organization's position clear. Is that wise?
Some fans love it. Fellow FanHouser Ryan Wilson applauds Marvin Lewis. Local radio host Mo Egger (1530 Homer) agrees with Marvin and wants to send a message. Teaching Chad Johnson (and everyone else who tries this tactic) a lesson but not giving in to the demands. The team has shown some flexibility in the past and renegotiated Chad's deal twice already and having him whine yet again is intolerable.
They can point to the Lakers' Kobe Bryant trade demand a year ago to prove their point. Kobe went on a media tour trying to whine his way out of LA and the team didn't budge. Now he's elated and may be named the league's MVP soon. Maybe showing Chad that there's no way out will calm him down.
