Welcome to the final power rankings of the 2007-08 campaign.

In this season-ending installment, you can check out my postseason breakdowns for the 16 playoff teams, as well as what the remaining 14 teams have to look forward to in the future.

But most of all, I just wanted to say thanks for stopping by and checking out the rankings every week. Hopefully my picks were just as enlightening as they were frustrating.

Enjoy the rest of this week's rankings. And see you in the second season, where the fun really begins.

NBA Power Rankings
Top Five Teams

1 of 5

Fifth: Detroit Pistons | Rec.: 57-23 | Prev.: 3
Thanks to the depth off the bench provided by the young "Zoo Crew" (above), Detroit hasn't looked this good entering the playoffs since they won it all in '04.

The Best of the Rest

New Orleans Hornets 6. UTAH JAZZ (54-27) | direction | PREVIOUS: 7
Why is Utah above the Hornets? The Jazz has more depth, Deron Williams owns CP3, and this team reached the West finals last year. Sorry, but in the playoffs, experience counts.
San Antonio Spurs 7. NEW ORLEANS HORNETS (55-25) | direction | PREVIOUS: 6
N.O.'s starters can run with anyone, but depth is a major concern for the Hornets. This is where the grind sets in, and guys like Bonzi Wells and Mike James just haven't delivered.
Dallas Mavericks 8. DALLAS MAVERICKS (50-31) | direction | PREVIOUS: 12
Don't count Dallas out. Honestly, the Mavs could make a run all the way to the finals. Dirk has rediscovered his outside touch, and J-Kidd always turns it on in the playoffs.
Houston Rockets 9. HOUSTON ROCKETS (54-27) | NC | PREVIOUS: 9
While Houston lacks the firepower to make a deep run, defense will make it a handful in a seven-game series. Plus, expect rookie Luis Scola to have a breakthrough postseason.
Orlando Magic 10. ORLANDO MAGIC (50-30) | direction | PREVIOUS: 11
Orlando is a team that people seem to have forgotten about, but who wants to go seven games against Dwight Howard? Plus, Hedo Turkoglu has plenty of playoff experience.
Golden State Warriors 11. GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS (48-33) | direction | PREVIOUS: 8
Even though the Warriors didn't make the playoffs, it says here they'd top Denver in a seven-game series. It's a travesty that the NBA's playoff system excludes a squad this talented.
Denver Nuggets 12. DENVER NUGGETS (49-32) | direction | PREVIOUS: 10
'Melo's recent DUI arrest couldn't come at a worse time. Denver's the one team in the West that can't afford any distractions, yet their best player obviously isn't focused.
Cleveland Cavaliers 13. CLEVELAND CAVALIERS (45-36) | NC | PREVIOUS: 13
Because of LeBron, the Cavs are a threat to reach the finals. Yet, Cleveland could just as easily get bumped in the first round. Simply put, the King's supporting cast is really lacking.
Washington Wizards 14. WASHINGTON WIZARDS (43-38) | NC | PREVIOUS: 14
Could be this year's Warriors. With Arenas back, the Wizards will be a handful to defend. Plus, this team has nothing to lose. Don't be surprised if Les Wiz go on a mini postseason run.
Toronto Raptors 15. TORONTO RAPTORS (41-40) | NC | PREVIOUS: 15
Raps are very close to being a scary team, but they just don't have a legitimate second scorer. Chris Bosh is amazing, but when games get tight, he's going to need some help.
Philadelphia 76ers 16. PHILADELPHIA 76ERS (40-41) | NC | PREVIOUS: 16
Sixers actually managed a season-split (2-2) with the Pistons, so they might not be scared of them if they meet. Still, there's no Philly's feel-good story gets to the second round.
Atlanta Hawks 17. ATLANTA HAWKS (37-43) | direction | PREVIOUS: 18
Prediction: the Hawks will hang tight with the Celtics for the first 40 minutes of games, but they'll get burned at the end. And ultimately Atlanta will get swept in four games.
Portland Trail Blazers 18. PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS (40-40) | direction | PREVIOUS: 17
On the one hand, the Blazers should be happy with a .500 season. But on the other hand, their weak finish should be a cause for concern. Young teams shouldn't burn out.
Sacramento Kings 19. SACRAMENTO KINGS (38-43) | NC | PREVIOUS: 19
All in all, the Kings can be happy about this season. Reggie Theus was a solid rookie coach, and Beno Udrih, John Salmons and Spencer Hawes were all pleasant surprises.
Indiana Pacers 20. INDIANA PACERS (35-46) | direction | PREVIOUS: 21
Indy might be disappointed at not making the playoffs, but 35 wins is overachieving for this team. Also, Mike Dunleavy deserves credit for breaking through in his sixth season.
New Jersey Nets 21. NEW JERSEY NETS (33-47) | direction | PREVIOUS: 20
Say what you will about how "nice" of an acquisition Devin Harris was, but the Nets were just 8-15 with Harris in the lineup. All in all, this team is in flux.
Chicago Bulls 22. CHICAGO BULLS (32-49) | direction | PREVIOUS: 23
As overrated as the Bulls were heading into '07-08, they could be just as underrated in '08-09. Noah, Gooden, Nocioni, Deng and Gordon are solid players. They just need a coach.
Charlotte Bobcats 23. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS (31-49) | direction | PREVIOUS: 24
There are reasons for optimism, but that Brandan Wright for J-Rich trade looks dumber by the day. As does the Sam Vincent hiring. Simply put, MJ is killing this team.
Minnesota Timberwolves 24. MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES (21-59) | direction | PREV.: 22
All in all, not a bad year for Minnesota. Guys like McCants, Foye, Telfair and Craig Smith all showed potential. And Al Jefferson might have had the quietest 20-10 season ever.
Los Angeles Clippers 25. LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS (23-57) | direction | PREVIOUS: 26
Next season's starters: Kaman at center, Brand and Thornton at the forwards, and Maggette at off-guard. Don't laugh, but if the Clips can find a point guard, they could be tough.
Milwaukee Bucks 26. MILWAUKEE BUCKS (26-55) | direction | PREVIOUS: 27
John Hammond coming over to run the Bucks is a very underrated move. After seven seasons with Joe Dumars, Milwaukee's new GM knows how to build a team.
Seattle SuperSonics 27. SEATTLE SUPERSONICS (19-62) | direction | PREVIOUS: 28
Relocation may be painful, but Sonics rookies Kevin Durant (.486 FG% since March) and Jeff Green (14.3 ppg in April) both finished the season playing very well.
Memphis Grizzlies 28. MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES (22-58) | direction | PREVIOUS: 25
The stands collapsing in game No. 80 at the FedEx Forum could be seen as a metaphor for Memphis' season. The Grizzlies have no foundation, and their fan support is falling.
New York Knicks 29. NEW YORK KNICKS (23-58) | NC | PREVIOUS: 29
Who does Donnie Walsh build around? David Lee, Nate Robinson, Jamal Crawford and (maybe) Eddy Curry. Otherwise, ship the rest out and start over, Mr. Walsh.
Miami Heat 30. MIAMI HEAT (14-67) | NC | PREVIOUS: 30
If karma truly is a boomerang, then the Heat will wind up with the fourth pick in the draft. It's one thing for a team to tank, it's another for a Hall of Fame coach to quit on his team.

Good luck Orlando in recovering from such a travesty and somehow making this a series. It's gonna be tough especially in Detroit. As for my overall prediction.................Lakers in 6 over the Celtics. Finals MVP, Kobe Bryant!

mgmmgm5 04:28:01 PM May 06 2008

Let me make it plain and simple. Of course I've the advantage of seeing how well all the playoff teams faired in their 1st round matchups. That being said, I'm sold now on the N.O. Hornets as a legitimate championship candidate as well as the L.A. Lakers who, for the record are the team to beat in the West, hands down. And in the East it's quite obvious who the powerhouses are. The Celtics have proven all year and continue to show their tenacity and their ability to rise to the ocassion when it counts the most despite the see-saw battle they had with the Hawks who by the way, are a much improved team the second half of the season and particularly in the playoffs despite their season-ending record. The Pistons are the usual rock-solid unit that they've proven to be in the past 3-4 post seasons although I imagine any Piston fans are just giddy over the recent string of horrible officiating that benefited them in the utmost way. A huge blow to the integrity of the game. Good luck O
