          Giants to Battle Redskins, McCain?

The NFL's Thursday night season opener will match the Super Bowl-champion New York Giants and the Washington Redskins, with the game possibly starting an hour-and-a-half earlier to avoid clashing with the Republican National Convention.

The Redskins pounded the Giants 22-10 the last time the teams met late in the 2007 season.

The game is now scheduled for 8:30 p.m. EDT on Sept. 4 - the concluding night of the Republican convention - and will be televised by NBC. League spokesman Greg Aiello said Wednesday that the NFL is talking with the network about changing the game's starting time to 7 p.m.

The Super Bowl winner traditionally hosts the game. The Redskins' participation was confirmed by a person familiar with the NFL schedule who spoke on condition of anonymity because the league has not announced it.

The highlight games of the NFL's first weekend will be announced Monday during league meetings in Palm Beach, Fla. The rest of the schedule will be announced later next month.

UNFORTUNATELY THE GIANTS HAVE A HISTORY OF FLOPPING AFTER WINNING THE SUPERBOWL AND OR A SUPERBOWL APPEARANCE. THIS TREND WILL CONTINUE!!!! THE NFC EAST WILL BE WON BY THE REDKINS OR DALLAS WITH THE GIANTS AND EAGLES BATTLING FOR THE WILDCARD.....THE NFC EAST WILL CONTINUE TO BE THE BEST DIVISION IN FOOTBALL FOR THE NEXT 5 TO 7 YEARS. roberta - you are a joke. I routed for the Giants to win the SB, but your name calling of my team members and owner is uncalled for. You don't want me to dig up history of your past and present team members...do ya? You won a SB be happy...our division is happy for you. We kept it in our division. Let throw mud in September.

roberta, you guys did us a favor taking out NE but come crunch time this year, we'll definitley prevail. I'll hand it to you guys the last time we played, but the reason I KNOW we'll whoop you next is the last games stats between Dallas and New York. We clearly outpassed, outrecieved and outran you guys but hey killled ourselves with 11 penalties for 80 something yards. Go ahead and beat your chest like a Gorilla buddy but I can guarantee if you played either Dallas or New England in the opener it wouldn't be the same because everyone knows it.
