      NCAA Tourney's Real Winners, Losers

      Posted: 2008-04-10 11:37:22
What happens when you combine AOL's college sports editors and the FanHouse? You get nearly one usable mind and just one fewer win than the Detroit Tigers with one-eighth the mustache of Todd Jones.

This week, we're running down the real winners and losers of the NCAA Tournament, excluding Kansas which already has a handsome futuristic plaque-ish trophy to brag about.

      10. Ben Howland, UCLA: Howland took the Bruins to three straight Final Fours for the first time since John Wooden. But like Wooden, who claimed a fan said his '75 and 10th title made up for the '74 "failure", Howland is learning that Westwood is demanding.

      10. Frank Haith, Miami: The Hurricane coach was probably due a nice raise and extension, but the school's first NCAA Tournament win in eight years probably put more than an extra value meal into his new five-year deal.

Whoops, got cut off there. Was finishing up with: The crystal ball shows another 27-28 wins next year, a semifinal loss in the ACC tourney, and a 2nd or 3rd round loss in the NCAA's. Then all of you get to do this AGAIN !!

Wow, bet you can't wait...... between now and then, give this some consideration: GROW UP. (and yes, I can spell the word DURING) Good nite, now ...

I don't get it -- or maybe I DO... it's a "pile-on the BLUE DEVILS" vote, for the biggest loser. They bring a good team, not great, to the tournament. They finish at 28-6 on the year, with NO big man, and NO go-to scorer. In post season polls, they finish 13-to-18, RIGHT WHERE they were predicted to finish, by the preseason experts back in September.

SO, what's the big deal? They went as far as they could go, and no further. They were overrated when they were sitting #2 in the polls(due to everyone else dropping spots due to losses duriong that time)), with three weeks to go. Then they slumped down the stretch, stumbled into the tournament, and were a woeful 1-1 in the big dance.

Guess it's just fun to PILE ON, right guys?? So, rest up, and get ready for another guilty pleasure in 2008-2009. Duke has recruited (yet) another guard, and a 6-7 swingman. Other than Singler improving into one of the top 20 -25 players in the NCAA, very little will change next year. The crystal ba

Whoever wrote this crap wouldn't even put his name on it. Needless to say, the quality of the reporting explains why he writes for AOL instead of a real sports outlet.

Who are these non athletic, never played a sport in their lives idiots to write this garbage. No team, coach or player is a loser unless they cheat or don't give their all to play at the top of their game. But since everone involved is human and subject to making mistakes, there will be those idiots who point their fingers and make stupid remarks from their chairs while doing Monday mornig quarterbacking. The sports writers and columnists talk their crap and would not know how to play or coach in any sport. It seems when a team is winning or a player is having a banner year, the writers are all so praising of them. But let a team, coach or player have an off night or make a mistake, they turn on them and make it sound like they could do a better job. Writers just talk the talk and never walk the walk. What a bunch of wimps.

You know Most of these reporters and sports columnists have never actually played the sport. It's really irritating to read about how they've classified players and coaches into biggest winners and losers. I'd like to see these reporters do what they do.

I can't consider Drake to be a biggest loser - it was their first tournament game since 1971. They were picked for the cellar in their conference in the preseason. The Hilltoppers played a great game, but the Bulldogs are definitely not "Big Losers."

      fonda1law 12:22:40 PM Apr 10 2008

It's unfair to consider any of the players, coaches or teams which made it into the final four a "biggest loser." They all had great seasons and ultimately, they all lost to a great team playing at the top of its game.
