    Who's Best Sideline Reporter?

    Posted: 2007-11-08 13:05:33
The best TV sports announcers don't just describe the action taking place on the field, court, rink, course, track, etc. They bring it to life using a combination of insight, wit and enthusiasm. So based on these criteria, who's the best sports announcer on national TV? Help us decide. AOL Sports put together four brackets worth of the best TV sportscasters currently in the game. Vote for your favorites in each of the brackets, then check back each week to see who advanced. Keep voting to help your favorite voice win the overall title of television's Best Sports Announcer!

ERIN ANDREWS (1) vs. CHERYL MILLER (8)
The Skinny: By asking some tough (or at least not entirely easy) questions, ESPN's Andrews has shown herself to be more than just a pretty face patrolling the sideline. TNT's Miller meanwhile, does a solid job of balancing the duties of her job with her buddy-buddy friendships with some of the NBA's biggest names.

SUZY KOLBER (2) vs. JEANNE ZELASKO (7)
The Skinny: ESPN's Kolber was born to cover the NFL. None other than expert analyst, and former Eagles quarterback, Ron Jaworski used to babysit her as a kid. Zelasko, meanwhile, has won over the bigwigs at FOX to such a degree that she's now a part of any major MLB broadcast the network airs.

PAM OLIVER (3) vs. LESLEY VISSER (6)
The Skinny: FOX thinks enough of Oliver's sideline skills to pair her with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman for NFL games. As for Visser? She's just a female sports broadcasting pioneer, that's all.

MICHELE TAFOYA (4) vs. BONNIE BERNSTEIN (5)
The Skinny: Tafoya is one of the sharpest sideline reporters, if not overall announcers, working in sports television. Bernstein, meanwhile, has carved out a successful career covering the NFL thanks to a solid blend of on-air charm and decent knowledge of the game itself.

(Voting for the first round will conclude on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at which point the leader in each pairing will advance to the second round, with second-round voting concluding on Nov. 20, etc. The four bracket winners will then advance to a "Best Announcer" semifinals to determine the overall winner. There is no BETTER sideline analyst. Get rid of that job! The position sucks. Put Suzy Kolber in a more responsible position. She is knowedgeable and not bad to look at! Give her a play by play announcers job and let her work major college or NFL games.

just because they are a female, that does not mean they are a bimbo! Their looks may get them the job, but some have brains AND talent.

The Tafoya-Bernstein one was tough. They both are great. I give Tafoya a slight edge.

Pam Oliver is great on the sidelines of an NFL game. She aint bad looking either. But, why did they put her up against Lesley Visser? Visser is the one they all look up to.

2 words- Vin Scully. He continues to fly solo on Dodger broadcasts. You know what? He delivers what FOX only promises, "The Sounds of the Game". With no one beside him you truly can hear the sounds of the game because you hear peanut and beer vendors hawking their wares as well as the murmer of the crowd between pitches, not Phil Sims or Tim McCarver relentlessly barking out the painfully obvious so as to fill every second of dead air. I lump the female broadcasters on the sidelines and the male "color" guys in the booth together. They all have to have something to say when nothing need be said at all. That's why you see 75 replays of the same foul ball. FOX has to take 20 minutes for the pre-game instead of 5 or 10 because they have a host of folks who have to drive home what you already knew anyway. That's why I have come to the point where I watch pro sports with the volume muted. All I miss is the roar of the broadcasting crowd.
