30 yrs of awful announcing = Chris Berman. He's the first announcer that believed he was the show rather than the athletes on the field. I prefer articulate, informed, accurate announcers to ones that have gimmicks to try to get by. How many years can you do that stupid Howard Cosell imitation? the name games with players was old right away. ESPN keeps trotting him out to every sporting event and he keeps muddling his way through. Ever hear him at a golf tournament? It's beyond brutal.

You all have missed the boat here. The worst sports ...whatever he claims to be ..is Bob Ley from ESPN. He's the Phil Donahue of sports television.
He...is a user. He's either pushing the gay issue or the race one.
His forums are a disingenuine display of concern for the "down trodden". Even when his guests add a balanced perspective to the subjects at hand,he returns to an attempt to stir whatever pot he's brewing at the time
ESPN is sickening this way. They have taken sports from what is suppose to be, into making it a constant framework for someone's soapbox.
BoB LeY...is a fat pig.....that is over whelmed with his own self importance, and ESPN is his *****.

Poor Bryant Gumbel is totally out of his element. Perhaps he is the ass most people report, but he's decent in a TV studio. A bit grandiose and pompous, but I doubt that anyone either cares or even notices. However, you he can't escape a hot mike. Mistakes happen to the best sportscasters. But, when the entire game is riddled with cliches tossed out from high in his throat, and the game takes on the sound and feel of a high school football match from Small Town, America...surely someone on high notices. My backgound is Major Market broadcasting. Since the age of twenty. Certainly I can hear the amateur handling of an NFL broadcast, but even to the uninitiated Gumble is as transparent as a store front window. (cliche) I'll throw that one in for nothing. If Bryant is going to use them, at least he should provide some variety. I'm not sure he's the worst, but somebody has to be and I haven't heard a worse TV sportscaster. If I were the NFL, I'd get a "cease and desist" order a
